Aster colleagues walk 10,000 miles for Dementia UK
Colleagues from local housing association Aster Group joined forces to take part in a monthly step challenge to raise money for the company’s charity of the year, Dementia UK.
Eighty three colleagues in ten teams from across the business, walked 21,589,634 steps - the equivalent of 10,000 miles or the distance between the United Kingdom and Australia.
Over £250 was raised for Dementia UK, which Aster double match-funded by £500, bringing the overall total from the walking challenge to £750. So far this year, colleagues have raised £3,812for the charity, with plans for more fundraising activity to take place throughout the remainder of the year.
Commenting on the walking challenge, Rachel Credidio Aster Group people and transformation director said: “It was great to see so many colleagues embrace this challenge. Collectively walking 10,000 miles in a month is an incredible achievement that helped raise an impressive £750 for our charity of the year, Dementia UK.
“This step challenge was also a great way to connect our teams, albeit remotely, as they worked together to get their daily steps in, while focusing some time on their health and wellbeing.”
Dementia UK is the only national charity caring for the entire family of someone with dementia, through its dementia specialist Admiral Nurses.
Commenting on the Aster walking challenge, Sophie Hirst, regional fundraiser south west said: “Everyone at Aster has worked incredibly hard in their fundraising efforts for us. The most recent walking challenge was a big success and such a great way to bring everyone together during lockdown. Between them they walked over 10,000 miles which is incredible! Well done Aster and thank you on behalf of everyone at Dementia UK and all the families we support.”
