Aster Group begins construction on new affordable homes in Walton
Construction has started on the Pursey’s Garage site in Walton which will see a collection of affordable homes built for the community.
The mixture of 2 and 3 bedroom homes will be available to residents in the area, with 17 shared ownership properties and two for social rent.
The site is situated just over a mile from the bustling village of Street in the Mendip district of Somerset, and backs onto open fields.
As well as being nearby sought-after schools, such as the Walton Church of England Primary School, it is also close to local amenities such as supermarkets, a variety of shops and bus services.
Walton has a very strong sense of community, with events often taking place at the local Village Hall such as Christmas parties and Bonfire Night bonanzas.
The homes are being built by E G Carter and will be managed by Aster, with completion forecast for Spring 2021.
Amanda Williams, Group development director from Aster, said: “We’re so pleased to have begun construction on our first development site in Walton and to bring more affordable housing options to the area.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for local people to get on to the property ladder and secure a home in their own village that delivers on excellent quality at prices people can afford.”
Stuart Durrans, Contracts Manager at E G Cater & Co Ltd said “We are delighted to be working alongside our partners Aster on yet another much needed housing development.
“We look forward to completing in 2021 and continue to work collaboratively with Aster as part of the construction partnership to deliver even more new homes throughout.”
