Aster Group supports drive against domestic abuse

Colleagues at housing association Aster Group are wearing white ribbons as part of a campaign to raise awareness of violence against women and girls.

In support of White Ribbon Day (Friday 25 November), Aster Group is getting behind the annual event that aims to show how everyone can play their part in changing attitudes towards violent and abusive behaviour.

The initiative by White Ribbon UK will be supported with a media campaign to remind Aster Group residents on what to do if they are affected by domestic abuse.

It comes after research from the White Ribbon UK showed around one in four women and one in eight children will be affected by domestic abuse in their lifetime, while around 40% of the LGBTQ+ community have also experienced domestic abuse.

Aster Group has a dedicated team ready to help anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse. The housing association supports victims and works with other agencies to help them move into safer environments if they’ve experienced an abusive relationship in the home. 

Josh Dear, regional head of housing at Aster Group, said: “Domestic abuse happens in all kinds of homes to all kinds of people.

“We work closely with our local police teams and other local partner agencies to support people affected by the issue and we’re getting behind the message of White Ribbon Day so that everyone can do their bit to end violence against women and girls.”

The charity organiser is urging Brits to show their support for the cause using the hashtag #TheGoal on social media, to coincide with the men’s World Cup 2022.

This week also marks National Safeguarding Week, an annual awareness campaign to highlight the support in place for vulnerable people within the community. Aster Group provides training to ensure colleagues can spot the signs of safeguarding and get support for customers where needed.
