Bjorn Howard, Group CEO, reacts to Robert Jenrick's speech on Planning for the Future

“Robert Jenrick’s speech contained a clear intention to put communities at the forefront of housing delivery and the importance he placed on addressing specific local housing needs is particularly encouraging. We’ve seen first-hand through our work with Community Land Trusts just how effective this approach is at delivering the homes communities want and need.

“The housing secretary was vocal on building homes through a variety of different tenures. Affordable and social rent, as well as shared ownership, are vital components of the housing mix needed in the UK and it is heartening to hear how central to the government’s plans they continue to be.

“There is still work to be done on housing, whether it’s providing people with vitally needed affordable homes or giving those priced out of traditional ownership an affordable route onto the ladder. Government, local authorities and housing associations all have a fundamental role to play if we are to achieve these goals. By working together, I’m confident we can achieve the ambitions set out by Mr Jenrick today.”
