Calne man takes on half-marathon in aid of Julia’s House children’s hospice
A local man has successfully run the Bath half marathon raising over £550 for south west based children’s hospice, Julia’s House.
James Wadsworth, who lives in Calne and works for local housing association Aster Group as a surveyor, is a keen runner and completed the challenge on Sunday 15 October in 2:06 hours.
James said: “I became aware of Julia's House and the work they do a couple of years ago. Having two young children myself and thinking of the nature of the work they do, I found it very moving, and really couldn’t think of a more worthwhile charity.
“I was motivated to do something to fund raise and support them and saw that the Bath half marathon had places for people in support of Julia's House. I thought this was a good opportunity to try and raise some money for them.
“The run was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but very enjoyable and I’m so pleased to have raised money for this great cause.”
To boost James’s fundraising efforts, Aster donated £250 through its charity match funding scheme, which combined with his own fundraising of £255, brought James’ overall total for the half marathon to £550.
Julia's House is a children's hospice located in Corfe Mullen, Dorset and Devizes, Wiltshire. It is a hospice for children with life-limiting, life-threatening or terminal conditions.
Gary Prince, Regional Operations Director: “Well done to James for completing his challenge and raising money for such a good local cause. Many of our customers and colleagues will have experienced support from Julia’s House personally and we’re proud to be able to donate to this charity through James’ hard work.”
