Housing association announces Dementia UK as its new Charity of the Year

Following a year of fundraising for its last Charity of the Year, Cancer Research UK, employees at Aster have chosen to support Dementia UK following a business wide vote.

Last year, employees at the Wiltshire based housing association raised £20,060 for Cancer Research UK by taking part in a whole range of activities including Race for Life, bake sales, an overnight 26 mile Shine walk, and cycling challenges.

Employees can double the amount they raise under Aster’s match funding scheme when signing up for organised events or when arranging their own fundraising events for the charity.

Rachel Credido, Group people and transformation director at Aster said: “We’re delighted to announce that Dementia UK is our new Charity of the Year. So many of us have been touched by this illness so it’s a pleasure to be organising fundraising activities throughout the year to help us raise as much as we can.

“We are committed  to doing all we can to have a positive impact on the lives of people  living in our communities and this is just one way we can continue to give something back.”

Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through an Admiral Nurse service. When things get challenging or difficult, Admiral Nurses work alongside people with dementia, their families and carers; giving the compassionate one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that can be hard to find elsewhere.
