Cat neutering and microchipping
Do you have a new pet cat? Do you have a pet cat that isn’t yet neutered? Are you looking to welcome a kitten into your home?
In England from 10 June 2024, it will be compulsory to have your cat microchipped from 20 weeks of age, but there is no minimum age to have your cat microchipped. Many kittens are microchipped at the same time as being spayed or neutered when they are already under general anaesthetic.
Cats Protection are offering neutering/ spaying for just £10 – this includes a microchip which ensures you are ready for the new law.
You are able to get your cat neutered and microchipped at a participating vet for £10 if you meet any of the following criteria:
- You are in receipt of any of the following means-tested benefits: universal credit, income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit, pension credit, income-based ESA, income-based JSA, working tax credits and child tax credits.
- You have a household annual income of less than £25,000 before tax.
- You are a full-time student living away from home.
You can find a participating vet by putting your postcode into the website checker: Find a vet new scheme | (cats.org.uk)
