Energy providers urge people to submit meter readings

As you may have seen in the media, energy providers are encouraging people to submit their meter readings now for gas and electricity, to avoid paying higher estimated energy costs from 1 October.

By submitting a meter reading now, you can avoid being charged an estimated usage rate when rates go up from 1 October.

Energy UK, the industry body, said people should check the best way to submit their meter readings before 1 October and has shared five things for you to be aware of in advance of the new price cap coming into force on Saturday. Read these top tips here.

Some energy companies have said that they’ll allow people a few days either side of 1 October to submit meter readings in time to avoid an estimated reading being taken.
