Gambling support – don’t suffer in silence
According to research, up to one million women are at risk of experiencing gambling problems. But while gambling harm amongst women is increasing, talking about it isn’t. That’s why we’re supporting GambleAware’s campaign to tackle the issue – from helping people spot the signs, to sharing support and treatment, and getting people talking about it.
If you’re concerned about your – or a loved one’s – gambling, having a conversation is often the first step in getting help. To help you talk about it, we’ve included some simple conversation starters below.
If you’re worried about your own gambling:
• ‘I started playing this game and it’s really easy to lose track of everything around you. Do you ever feel that?’
• ‘These games really follow me around, the adverts and notifications are everywhere. What do you think I should do about that?’
• ‘I’ve not been feeling like myself lately.’
If you’re worried about a loved one’s gambling:
• ‘Are you okay? You don’t seem like yourself at the moment.’
• ‘I’ve noticed you’ve been gambling a lot recently. It’s starting to
make me worry.’
• ‘Do you want to talk about how you’re feeling about your gambling?’
GambleAware offers free, confidential help to anyone who’s worried about their – or someone else’s – gambling. For more conversation starters and further support, visit www.BeGambleAware.org.
