Help for households during power cuts

If a power cut happens, did you know there’s free support available to those who might need an extra hand?

Scottish and Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) is offering extra help and support during a power cut. Register for its Priority Services to make sure you can access help when you need it most. All priority services are free.

We’ve previously shared some tips about what to do if the government announce planned power outages during the winter months. The recent milder weather means that planned power outages are believed to be unlikely, but this could change throughout the rest of winter.

If you’re signed up to the priority service, you’ll get help if any planned or unplanned power cuts happen in your local area at any time.

Who is eligible?

You may want to be on this priority register if you:

• Are deaf or hard of hearing
• Have a disability
• Live with children under five
• Are blind or partially sighted
• Have a chronic illness
• Use medical equipment/aids reliant on electricity
• Are over 60
• Temporarily need extra support.
