How to deal with unknown callers
Unknown callers and scammers are a worry at the best of times, but some are now using the pandemic as another way to defraud people. Bogus callers succeed because they sound believable, but there’s some simple steps you can take to avoid being caught out.
We’ll let you know in advance if we plan to visit you at home. So, if someone calls round when you’re not expecting us, our contact centre team can let you know if the visit is genuine. You can reach us on 0333 400 8222.
When you look at the caller’s identification (ID) card, check the following:
- Is the photo on the card the same as the person at the door?
- Is the card valid and not out of date?
- Has the card been tampered with in any way?
- Does the card have the right company logo?
Our teams and repairs contractors always carry formal Aster ID cards to prove who they are.
Treat every stranger with caution. If they claim to be from a different business/organisation and you are worried, call 101 immediately and ask for the police.
