Mobility scooter storage

We allow the safe use of mobility scooters, e-scooters and electric wheelchairs in all our homes, as we recognise the important contribution they can make for some customers to being able to move around and have independence.

We have recently been made aware in a few instances of mobility scooters being charged in communal areas. Mobility scooters can pose a fire risk through overcharging, faulty chargers, faulty batteries, or a lack of appropriate servicing. For your safety and the safety of others in the building, we therefore do not allow mobility scooters to be kept, parked, stored or charged in communal areas, apart from within designated scooter rooms that are available at some of our larger housing schemes. Any mobility scooters that are being stored in a communal area or are blocking safe exits will be removed and the owner will be notified.

As well as designated scooter rooms, mobility scooters can be stored within your own home after permissions have been granted. Applications can be made through your local housing officers. Please note we do not allow e-bikes into homes or communal areas.

To maintain a safe environment for all, we will be carrying out regular inspections of communal areas and storage locations. We would appreciate your support in the work we do to keep your buildings safe and thank you in advance for your co-operation.
