Tackling fuel poverty
Everyone deserves to live in a warm home that they can afford to heat this winter. However, millions of families are affected by fuel poverty and we’re committed to tackling this issue and improving the energy performance of our homes.
Through our Warm Homes Fund project we’re spending £5m improving some of our homes. The work we’ve already done includes improving the insulation on homes and also replacing expensive and inefficient heating systems such as storage heaters.
We installed a new heating system for one customer just before Christmas, and she has seen her fuel bill decrease from £130 a month to £45.
She said: “Thanks to the Warm Homes project and despite everything going on, I will be warm, rather than worrying how I’m going to afford it and if my family will be cold.”
Last year we worked with our partners, E.ON Energy, South West Gas Networks (SGN), Wales and West Utilities and the Fuel Poor Network Extension scheme to install 71 gas central heating systems in customer’s homes and we’re on track to install up to 230 systems this financial year.
